Iranian, Chinese officials discuss women’s affairs

TEHRAN - Iranian presidential advisor for women’s affairs Maryam Mojtahedzdeh and head of the All-China Women’s Federation (ACWF) exchanged views on women’s affairs in Iran and China during a meeting in Tehran on Tuesday.
The Chinese ambassador to Tehran and a number of officials from ACWF attended the meeting.During the meeting, Mojtahedzdeh, who is also the director of Iran’s Women and Family Affairs Center, briefed the head of the ACWF about Iran’s achievements in the area of women’s affairs after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Mojtahedzdeh stated that the number of females who have taken the country’s university entrance exam or have been accepted at universities has increased 25 times since the revolution while the population has multiplied 2.5 times.
She also stated that the Iranian females have active participation in all affairs of the country.
35 percent of females were literate before the revolution, but currently 96.6 percent of females, between ages 9 to 26, are literate, Mojtahedzdeh explained.
She also announced that the number of female university professors have increased by 30 percent after the revolution.
Iran has 8 million female athletes, she added.
Mojtahedzdeh also said women’s life expectancy in Iran is currently 74 years.
She also said that Iran is keen to increase its cooperation with China in the area of women’s affairs.
Mojtahedzadeh also announced that she will travel to China in the coming few days.
The head of the ACWF also briefed Mojtahedzdeh about China’s developments and called for expansion of relations between the two countries in the field of women’s affairs.
